How can I give to the life of the church?
First of all I would like to welcome you to St George’s and I look forward to meeting you. As a church we are wholly dependent on giving from those who belong to the church and our budget is just under £300,000 per annum. We don’t take up a weekly offering but rather encourage those who belong to St. George’s to join our planned giving scheme. As a newcomer if you would like to prayerfully consider giving to God’s work at St. George’s, the following may be helpful:
Biblical principles
The Bible teaches us a number of things about giving:
1. Everything we have comes from God
2. We are called to be good and prudent stewards
3. We are called to give generously and
4. We are also called to give in proportion to our means.
These Biblical principles are also taken seriously by us as a Church and so 10% of all we receive is given to a mission.
How does planned giving work?
Joining the Planned Giving scheme is the most efficient way to give and can be done by either:
1.
Setting up a monthly standing order from your bank
2. Personalise envelopes given in through the collection each week/month.
3.
Through the Give-as-you-earn scheme whereby your donation is deducted directly from your salary.
Any of these schemes can be stopped straight away at any time if you desire. If you pay income tax or capital gains tax, the Inland Revenue will refund to us the tax you have already paid on your donation. This amounts to 28p for each £1 that you give. If you join the Planned Giving scheme, all you need to do for the church to reclaim the tax is to complete a simple declaration prepared by us signifying that you are a tax payer.
If you would like to start giving in this way or would like more information please speak with myself or with Matt Steven our Manager on 368355.
